Walk / Hike

With an average January temperature of 17.8 degrees, there really is nowhere else with such perfect hiking conditions in Victoria in Summer.


Howmans Gap is the perfect base for single or multi-day hikes. Ranging from a quick walk down to the Rocky Valley Creek to a 21km return trip to Mt Cope. We can offer a spectrum of amazing walks that will suit beginners through to experts.

Mountain Bike riding

Howmans Gap maintains a fleet of mountain bikes and has specialised instructors trained in the delivery of safe mountain bike programming. With beginner trails around camp to more advanced trails and roads around Falls Creek, we can personalise your groups experiences.

Rocky Valley Lake

Australia’s highest body of water is perfect for a relaxing walk followed by a picnic, fishing or a dip in the clear blue waters.

Historic Mountain Huts

The Victorian Alps is home to many historical mountain huts, once home to explorers and keen mountaineers. Mountain Cattleman’s Huts, Wallace’s, Cope, Pretty Valley, Tawonga, Edmondson’s are some of the huts in the area.

Howmans staff are happy to help share the best way to access these landmarks with spectacular views.

Wishing Well

This moderate trek brings you to a small pool at the end of the aqueduct, affectionately known as the “Wishing Well”.


Whether for the extreme trail chaser or the weekend explorer Falls Creek delivers.


With the newly arrived Falls Creek Mountain Park, the mountain bike enthusiast will have over 40km’s of machine built single track winding through snow gums and alpine terrain. All this delivered literally on the doorstep of Howmans Gap.


We are right on the between the down trail of the increasingly famous, Flow-Town and the up single trail of Pack Horse Track


For a more relaxed experience, the Alpine National Park offers some spectacular back-country, fire trail and off-road rides.

Howmans Gap is also a member of the North East Tourism, Cycle Friendly Business Program.  We work to ensure our facilities support all types of cycling, including those riding the endless kilometres of smooth sealed roads on their favourite carbon steed.
